Uganda is constituted by more than 51% Women, 78% Youth & Individuals below 18 years of age make 50% of the population; translating to the second youngest population globally; Child Dependency Ratio at 108%. Unemployment among Women & Youth is one of the major challenges, currently at a rate of 14% for aged 18-35, one of the highest in Sub-Saharan Africa.
And, for rural communities in Eastern & Northern Uganda “just as God wished” demonstrate worst of realities of marginalization than the statistical figures often suggested;
“More than 80% of Ugandan Women & Youth live in rural areas and are highly unprivileged; average completion rate for primary education is 3 per 10 Girls”
Child Marriage; “More than 34% of teenage Girls in Uganda are married off or are in union before their 18th birthday (6% for Boys), and 7% of Girls before the age of 15”.
Women & Girls are more likely to accelerate societal social reforms; active participation & empowerment can play vital roles in their own development and the community; learn vital life-skills, develop knowledge of their rights, equality & positive civic action.
