Our Motivation:
Uganda Now!
‘‘The strength of Africa depends on strong Institutions; supplemented by the extraordinary inputs from distinguished Personalities” Obama, 2009! Uganda has one of the youngest populations globally; UBOS 2024 projection stands above 45 million, with up to 78% of the individuals below 25 years of age; presenting opportunity to affect urgent positive change. Eastern & Northern Uganda, are regions still recovering from past decades of devastating armed conflicts; poverty looms between 56% to 85% rate; illiteracy at 39% and, access to quality education & basic health for rural communities at 3 per 10 individuals. Even with child Dependency Ratio at 108%; educated and empowered individuals can create the systematic transformation, and as a community problems can be solved.
The world is not waiting; the state of rural communities in Uganda concerns us all, no individual is isolated from fundamental human rights, yet; biased urbanization with escalating population, away from global demographic trend, presents a challenge. Government pivots, through Frameworks & Policies and ensuring their implementation; but the Gaps are still evident.
Accordingly, WENET got founded in 2020 by a Ugandan protagonist Teacher, Joseph OKINO, inspired to partake in; “The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development & the UN 17 SDGs advocating “Leaving No One Behind’”; the African Union Agenda 2063; and, Uganda Vision 2040, all conforming to community-driven transformation”
Anchored on Altruism, the priority is; quality Education, good Health, resilient community Livelihood, Environment & Climate Change, Equality, Technology & sustainability Skills. Hope is that, irrespective of our social-space, everyone finds the opportunity to demonstrate input towards high impact and locally-led sustainable responses to needs of the underprivileged; sustaining commitment of WENET as the ‘Transformation Agency’
